The Hotel Astoria is right in the historical centre of Alberobello, close to the train station and with great public transport links for exploring the whole of Alberobello and the surrounding region. Alberobello is known as the Capital of the Trulli and there are about 1400 in the town. A trullo (trulli is the plural) is a traditional Apulian stone dwelling with a conical roof. The style of construction is specific to the Itria Valley in the Murge area of the Italian region of Puglia. The distinctive shapes of these dwellings are the town’s most distinguishing feature.

When you reach the heart of the town, through traditional narrow alleys and charming winding streets, you come to the hill where the Sant’Antonio Church stands. The church is also constructed in the shape of a trullo, and from the hill you can admire the gorgeous views of the surrounding countryside. Only a short distance away, behind the sanctuary of the Santi Medici Cosma e Damiano, you will find the Trullo Sovrano, the only two-storey trullo in existence.

When strolling in the Monti district you must do some shopping for souvenirs and typical products in the various trulli that have been converted into shops; in the Aia Piccola area you can enjoy the traditional ancient and alluring charm of the region and its history.

By Air (from Bari Karol Wojtyla International Airport):
The hotel is approximately 55 km from Bari Karol Wojtyla International Airport. Taxis are readily available from outside the airport. Alternatively, you can take the Tempesta shuttle or the number 16 AMTAB bus to Bari train station.

By Train:
Once you reach Bari Train Station, go to the Sud-Est station and take the train to Taranto; get off at Alberobello station, which is just behind Hotel Astoria, only 30 metres away.
